The BEST Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

What Kind of Chocolate Chip Cookie do you prefer?

There are lots of different chocolate chip cookie preferences out there. Soft and chewy, crisp and tender, crunchy even.

This cookie is definitely SOFT and CHEWY rather than crispy. My family doesn’t like cookies that flatten out and become too brown and crisp with baking.

We all like cookies with nice loft but NEVER lumpy and hard.

I guess you could say we are chocolate chip cookie snobs!

What makes a Chocolate Chip Cookie SOFT?

This Soft, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie is baked until the dough is no longer shiny but JUST set and cooked through. Baking a cooking too long makes them dry, tough and crumbly. This cookie is best baked just shy of turning brown. A warmer oven (375 degrees F) for 9-11 minutes is perfect. The fast bake helps keep the cookie soft and moist.

The fat in this recipe is BUTTER of course! No surprise there – I DO NOT BAKE WITH CRISCO or any other fake fat. Butter results in a melt in your mouth, soft cookie.

The butter is also melted which allows it to be slightly absorbed into the flour and mixed well so that the resulting cooking isn’t greasy. When I have baked cookies in the past with softened butter (and not melted) the cookies tend to spread out and become flat as pancakes. No good!

  • 1 Cup MELTED Butter
  • 1 Cup White Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp. Vanilla
  • 2 Eggs
  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 1/2 Cups Chocolate Chips

How to Make the BEST Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Melt butter and allow to cool slightly before adding to mixing bowl.

Add sugars and cream together either by hand or medium-high speed using a mixer with the paddle attachment.

Add vanilla and eggs – mix well

In a separate bowl whisk or sift together flour, soda and salt.

Add flour mixture to the wet sugar-butter-egg mixture and stir until just combined.

Add chocolate chips and stir them all in by hand.

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Scoop cookie mix out into large (golfball size balls), roll slightly in your hands and place on parchment lined cookie sheet. I also give them a light little pat to flatten just slightly.

Bake 9-11 minutes. These cookies will not be very brown but will appear slightly puffed and will look “dry” on top rather than wet.

As soon as they no longer look wet or glossy on top remove them to cool.

Transfer slightly cooled cookie to cooling rack to finish cooling. OR – eat them warm!!!

Store in air tight container for up to 1 week OR – freeze for later!

Butter Makes Everything Better!

The melted butter in this recipe contributes to softeness, moisture and decadant chew in this cookie! Don’t skip this part. Make sure to use melted, cooled butter.

I think you are really going to love them!
